Spring 2002

Men's and Women's Softball Players,

It seems hard to believe but it's that time of year again!  Time to break out the old glove, cinch up the strings, dab a few spots of oil into it and get ready for another season of softball.  (Of course, if you are like most of us, you have been on a rigorous off-season weight-lifting and conditioning program and don't need to get anything ready, right?)

For advertising, look for announcements in the Growing Together in the weeks to come.  Also, we will have a few Sundays where there will be a softball information table set up in the church foyer.   But as you know, some of the best ways to bring new people into the program is through you!  I encourage you to stop by one of the tables (and bring a friend!).

As we look forward to the upcoming season, I want to remind you that our team rosters don't carry over from one year to the next  We build our teams from scratch, based on tryouts at spring training -- although many returning players do end up on the teams that they played on the previous year.  So if you intend to play, we need you out at the practices.  (Please note the date/time of the first practice above.)  This is even more important this year.

In the men's program, Westminster will plan on organizing two men's teams again this year.  If the number of men wishing to play exceeds the limits of what we can realistically carry for two teams, there may be some who won't make a team.  That is why your attendance at practices is so important.  That may be the sole basis for the coaches decisions on selecting their respective team rosters.

In the women's program last year, at the eleventh hour, they were able to put together a team.  At the moment, we are still trying to determine if the interest is there again for 2002.  Stay tuned.

We hope the off-season was good to you and we look forward to seeing you on the field!
