The 2001 softball season is here!

Men's and Women's Softball Players,

It seems hard to believe but it's that time of year again!  Time to break out the old glove, cinch up the strings, dab a few spots of oil into it and get ready for another season of softball.  (Of course, if you are like most of us, you have been on a rigorous off-season weight-lifting and conditioning program and don't need to get anything ready, right?)

For advertising, there will be an announcement in the Growing Together for the weeks of March 11th and 18th.  Also, for the Sundays of March 18th and 25th, there will be a softball information table set up in the church foyer.   But as you know, some of the best ways to bring new people into the program is through you!  I encourage you to stop by one of the tables (and bring a friend!).

As we look forward to the upcoming season, I want to remind you that our team rosters don't carry over from one year to the next  We build our teams from scratch, based on tryouts at spring training -- although many returning players do end up on the teams that they played on the previous year.  So if you intend to play, we need you out at the practices.  (Please note the date/time of the first practice above.)  This is even more important this year.

In the men's program last year, for a variety of reasons, an unusual number of players did not return from the previous year, requiring us to drop down to two teams.  Because of that decision, Westminster will only be organizing two men's teams again this year.  If the number of men wishing to play exceeds the limits of what we can realistically carry for two teams, there may be some who won't make a team.  That is why your attendance at practices is so important.  That may be the sole basis for the coaches decisions on their respective team rosters.

In the women's program last year, again for similar reasons to the men's program, we had to drop the women's team.  But this year, the interest is back and we have a team once again.  Way to go ladies!

We hope the off-season was good to you and we look forward to seeing you on the field!
